Some key ingredients of the Thai food

A lot of us have a keen interest in Thai cuisine, however, very few have an idea about the key ingredients used in the food. A few basic ingredients can lead to lip-smacking dishes. Let us know about some of the key ingredients used in Thai food and their significance in the cuisine. 
  
Vinegar

Although limes constitute a major part of the Thai cuisines, however many are dressed with vinegar to add a bit of sourness and are also included in several different sauces, for instance in nam jim. In case the vinegar is not available, cider vinegar can act as a good substitute.

Rice

Many of you might have noticed the use of rice in most Thai dishes. This is because sticky rice is a staple diet in the northern part of Thailand. Some prefer the jasmine rice while some add the brown jasmine or the black sticky rice.

Chiles

The hot and spicy flavors in Thai food exist due to the dried chile peppers. Mainly used in sauces, curries, stir-fries, and soups. The ‘bird’ chiles are the fieriest, however, if you do not find them, you can also use cayenne or jalapenos.

Coconut Milk

Mainly used in Thai curries, coconut milk adds a good flavor to the food. They are freshly made and rinsed out of coconut flesh and mixed with warm water. Mainly canned milk is used in Thai foods.
